Electric vehicles are inevitably the future of transportation. They have way less carbon emissions than fuel cars and are environmentally friendly. Automotive industries around the world are phasing out the internal combustion engine and adopting battery powered vehicles. Pakistani auto industry has also welcomed two electric cars, Audi e-tron and BMW i3.

What is an Electric Car and how does it work?

The heart of an electric vehicle is a rechargeable battery. The electricity stored in that battery powers the electric motor that turns the wheels. Refueling of an electric car is done by charging the battery by plugging into a charging station.

Other than being a friend to the environment, electric cars are highly powerful with crazy range. They are also much easier to maintain than fuel cars.

Currently, there are only two electric cars in Pakistan, Audi e-tron and BMW i3. MG Motors is bringing the electric variant of their SUV. The MG ZS EV will join the electric car lineup in Pakistan in 2021. Car enthusiasts and electric car lovers also import international EVs like Tesla, Porsche Taycan, and Nissan Leaf.

BMW i3

BMW i3 is Pakistan’s first official electric car. i3 is in some ways the local version of Tesla. Of course, it’s not exactly like Tesla, but it will get the job done. The car has three drive modes: Comfort, Eco Pro, and Eco Pro+.

The i3 Range Extender model is equipped with a small 2-cylinder gasoline-powered engine. The purpose of this small engine is to serve as a back-up for the driver, when he feels like the car battery is running out of charge.

i3 is capable of hitting 60 miles per hour in just 7 seconds with a maximum speed of 150 km/h.

Audi e-tron

Audi e tron is the second electric car in Pakistan. Launched in March 2020, the fully electric mid-size luxury crossover SUV attracted the elite car buyers. Audi e-tron offers a maximum power of 300 kW and has a 300 kilometers of range on a single battery charge.

The car comes with a 22 kW charging system that the car owner can install in his home. The charging system brings the car battery to full charge in about 5-6 hours. Moreover, the owner also gets an 11 kW portable charger to plug the car into any charging station on the road.

Audi e-Tron accelerates from 0-100 km/h in only 5.7 seconds and has a maximum speed of 200 km/h.
