2018 is destined to be a good year for the automobile industry, as local manufacturers are set to introduce new vehicles in the country to attract more consumers. The competition in pickup segment has already started as many local automakers have already launched their pickup trucks in the market. Ghandhara Nissan, Dewan-Daehan and Hyundai-Nishat are competing in this segment. CPEC is considered to be the game changer for all of South Asia. Daehan Shehzore: Dewan-Daehan Motors launched all-new Daehan Shehzore pickup in the local market at the end of March. The vehicle is equipped with 2600cc naturally aspirated 4-cylinder SOHC 8-valve diesel injection engine. The motor produces 79 horsepower at 4000rpm and 166.7Nm of torque at 2200rpm. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The dimensions of the pickup are 5145mm x 1740mm x 2020mm (length x width x height) and a wheelbase of 2720mm. The bed is 3100mm long (10.12 feet) Daehan Shehzore is priced at PKR 1,849,000. JAC X200: Ghandhara Nissan was importing JAC X200 for last six months. But to give competition to other manufacturers, the company has started assembling the vehicle locally. The first Roll Off ceremony of the locally assembled X200 held 0n 4th April 2018 at Ghandhara Nissan Truck Plant. The pickup has a 2771cc diesel engine that produces 76hp at 3600 rpm and 174 Nm of torque at 2000-2200 rpm. Moreover, the dimensions of the truck are 4840 mm, 1750 mm, and 2040 mm (length x width x height) and have a wheelbase of 2470 mm. Jac X200 has 9.2 ft deck length with 1150 kg payload capacity. The vehicle is priced at around Rs 1.6 million. Hyundai H-100: Hyundai-Nishat has been awarded the Greenfield investment status by the government. And the company is all geared up to launch new vehicles in the country. In the near future, the company is launching its pickup namely H-100 in the Pakistani market. As per the technical aspects of the vehicles are concerned, it is coming with the 2600cc engine same as Daehan Shehzore, as both the companies are using Hyundai’s engine. So, the torque and the horsepower of the vehicle are the same as Daehan Shehzore. Moving onward, the dimensions of the H-100 pickup truck are (4850 x 1630 x 1970) L x W x H (mm). And it has a wheelbase of 2430mm. The price of the vehicle is not yet revealed by the company. In this article, we have covered new pickups having engine capacity above 2500cc; however, there are also few loaders which have below 2500cc, but are considered good by many such as Suzuki Mega Carry which houses 1.5 litre SOHC 16 Valves Engine coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission. The dimensions of the vehicle are 4405mm x 1750mm x 1865mm (length x width x height) and a wheelbase of 2625mm. Mega Carry is the price at PKR 1,499,000. Dewan Motors in collaboration with Daehan Motors Co. Ltd launched the all-new Shehzore in Pakistan in a bid to attract more consumers. However, now it seems that it would face some serious competition from Hyundai-Nishat’s pickup truck, as the actual Hyundai H-100 loader as the company is planning to launch its pickup shortly. Hyundai Nishat Motor Pakistan has posted its statement against the newly launched Daehan Shehzore calling it Chinese replica and a fake product. The Facebook post of the company reads as follow: "A TV commercial being aired these is of ‘Daehan Shehzore’ which is Chinese replica of our original Hyundai H-100. That is why it is not called ‘Hyundai Shehzore’ anymore! It's a fake product and has no relation with Original Hyundai H-100 which we will be launching soon." It is to be noted here that previously Dewan launched Shehzore pickup truck in collaboration with Hyundai before it was discontinued in 2010. The vehicle was very popular back in the day. And now since Hyundai Nishat is also bringing its loader, let’s see which company’s pickup truck gets the attention of Pakistani auto consumers. Daehan Shehzore is using Hyundai’s engine, but the platform is sourced from China. While it is revealed to us that the upcoming H-100 will also be using Hyundai’s engine and transmission. The only minor difference between the two pickups would be the features. According to an industry analyst, Hyundai has committed to Nishat Motors that Dewan-Daehan will not be getting any engines in the future as they are selling fake replicas and also Nishat is now the official partner and assembler of Hyundai in Pakistan. Moving onward, as we researched for the story we stumbled upon this revelation that Nishat was thinking of fighting the legal battle with Dewan-Daehan as they have copied their product. However, till now no progress has been made in this regard. The company while responding to the question asked on social media said: "Since the product design is a replica of our Hyundai H-100 and Body was made in China without having any license agreement with Hyundai Motor South Korea. It is, by all means, a counterfeit product." Furthermore, the management of Hyundai-Nishat says that Dewan-Daehan’s product will not perform well as they have without any permission deliberately and explicitly copied their vehicle, and possibly without any proper research and development. One important thing to mention here is that Daehan is a Vietnamese company. The product which Dewan and Daehan are offering is not a Chinese product, as Daehan has headquartered in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. One can argue it is basically a Vietnamese vehicle. The original Shehzore was popular back in the day, when Dewan launched it with the collaboration of Hyundai, due to its performance and durability. Where the Hyundai Shehzore had single wheels in the rear, the new Shehzore comes with dual rear wheels. The dimensions of the pickup are 5145mm x 1740mm x 2020mm (length x width x height). Additionally, it has a wheelbase of 2720mm. The bed is 3100mm long (10.12 feet). The fuel tank capcity of the new mini-truck is 65 litres. It also has features like adjustable power steering, power windows, and auto door locks, including a whole host of other features that set this new loader apart from other similar vehicles. In the absence of the original Shehzore, Pak Suzuki launched its verion of the similiar-sized loading vehicle, the Mega Carry, in the market. So now with the re-launch of Shehzore, it would be interesting to see the competition between the two. Daehan Shehzore has been priced at PKR 1,849,000.
